dmoz & google

This week I have mostly discovered about the inner depths of search engines. The bigger ones will only accept manual submissions so all those automated programs I've been getting hold of a re pretty much a waste of space. Having said that most of the smaller search engines just get feeds from the few larger ones so that's where my effort has been concentrated. dmoz.org has an importance that belies it's apparent simplicity. It makes Google look over decorated! but I've fed in all the addresses of my sites as they stand so eventually it will get round to being hand checked and hopefully added to their directories. Google though have a number of webmaster tools which don't necessarily make life easier, but they do give lots of clues as to what may be wrong with your site. After manually adding my sub-domains I found out about the necessity of robots.txt, the joys of broken links - now repaired and the wonders of sitemaps - now added.

Hoefully all this means that the Google ads will soon be showing more than blank spaces and the sites will findable but those who wish to see them. More coming soon on my adventures in web-page promo land.
